How to Borrow eBooks on OverDrive’s Libby App

  1. Download the Libby app for Apple, Android, or Windows mobile devices.
  2. Open the app.
  3. Follow the prompts to find Burlington Public Library and sign in with your 14-digit BPL card number and 4-digit PIN (by default, the last four digits of the telephone number we have in our records for you).
  4. Browse the collection and find a title you’d like to borrow.
  5. Check the format of the item by looking for the format icon beneath the cover image, this tells you if it is an eBook or an eAudiobook.
  6. Tap on the title to be taken to its details page.
  7. You have the option to preview the book before signing it out by tapping the "Read Sample” button
  8. If the book is available, tap the "Borrow" button to sign it out. If the title isn’t available, tap "Place Hold” to wait for an available copy.
  9. On the borrow page, tap the time frame beneath the title to select how long you’d like to borrow the item for (the default is 21 days, but you can also choose 14 or seven days).
  10. Tap the "Borrow" button to sign out the book.
  11. Choose whether to "Keep Browsing" or start reading your selection immediately by tapping "Go To Shelf
  12. From your shelf, tap the "Open Book" button to begin reading.


How to Borrow eBooks on Overdrive for Desktop

  1. Go to https://burlingtonpl.overdrive.com, opens a new window, login with your library card number and PIN.
  2. Browse the collection and find a title you’d like to borrow.
  3. Check the format of the item by looking for the format icon beneath the cover image, this tells you if it is an eBook or an eAudiobook.
  4. Select a book to go to its details page.
  5. If the book is available, click the downwards arrow on the side of the "Borrow" button to select the loan time period (21 days is the default, but 14 and seven are also available), then click the "Borrow" button to check out the book. If the title isn’t available, click "Place A Hold" and enter your email address in the popup form to wait for an available copy
  6. Once you’ve borrowed the title, click "Go To Loans
  7. Select the "Read Now in Browser" button to open the book


How to Borrow eBooks on OverDrive for Kobo eReaders
These instructions are for all standard Kobo eReaders.   1. Install and authorize the latest version of Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) on your computer
  2. Connect your eReader to your computer with the Kobo USB cable
  3. Go to https://burlingtonpl.overdrive.com/, opens a new window and find the eBook you’d like to read
  4. Check that the title is available as an eBook (OverDrive offers digital audiobooks as well) by looking for the format beneath the image
  5. Select a book to go to its details page
  6. If the book is available, click the downwards arrow on the side of the "Borrow" button to select the loan time period (21 days is the default, but 14 and seven are also available) then click the "Borrow" button to sign out the book. If the title isn’t available, click "Place A Hold" and enter your email address in the popup form to wait for an available copy
  7. Once you’ve borrowed the item, click "Go To Loans"
  8. Click the "Download EPUB eBook" button
  9. If prompted, authorize ADE with a free Adobe ID
  10. Open the Library View in ADE by clicking the "Library" button in the top-left corner
  11. Drag and drop the eBook you downloaded into your eReader (this should appear on the left under “Devices” - you may need to accept a file transfer prompt on your eReader in order for it to appear in ADE).
  12. Disconnect your eReader and open your eBook to read it on your device
